The Upward Bound Program is a federally funded academic support program that prepares and motivates low-income, first-generation, and/or academically at-risk high school students to successfully complete a college education. The target schools are Eisenhower and Highland High Schools located in Yakima County. 

The College Readiness Coach shall be responsible to develop, & implement a 6-week Summer Academy for Upward Bound participants in compliance with Upward Bound Grant Expectations and Objectives as set forth by the US Department of Education. This position will require several weeks away on various college campuses during the summer months and overnight supervision of program students during the summer and academic year. 

Duties will include planning, developing, implementing, and oversight of a 6-week Summer Academy for Upward Bound students. Additionally, the Academic Program Coordinator will coordinate program services, assist as a liaison with high schools, build positive working relationships with key community stakeholders, provide academic and career advising, document student contacts, conduct workshops for students and parents within the Spanish speaking community, assess student needs and developing an academic service plan for each student to assure academic success and preparation for college. The position will also keep the Spanish speaking parents/guardians appraised of their students’ progress and will assist the parents in supporting their children’s academic success.

A minimum of one day each week will be spent in each target school.
