Job Summary:
Security Police Officers (SPOs) are federally commissioned uniformed officers whose mission is to protect classified matter, special nuclear material, government property and people. SPOs are authorized to carry firearms, make warrantless arrests and employ force. Identify, report, and warn others of unsafe conditions/hazards. Effectively and accurately document events through written reports (incident reports, witness statements, daily logs, and/or formal written communications). SPOs must comply with written and verbal directives as described in the Hanford Patrol policy/procedure manual provided by patrol management. Maintain proficiency in assigned weapons by obtaining the required qualifying scores. Remains physically fit in accordance with established guidelines as demonstrated by related tests. Maintains proficiency in all areas of responsibility of the SPO position.

Basic Qualifications
* Possess a High School diploma or GED.
* Must be a U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age.
* Possess and maintain a current valid driver's license.
* All applicants must pass a written exam.
* All applicants must initially pass a Cooper physical assessment to include a 1.5 mile run (the first mile within 8.5 minutes) pushups and sit-ups.
* All applicants must successfully pass medical, psychological and physical fitness standards in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR 1046, prior to hire and annually thereafter. The annual physical fitness standards include a one (1) mile run in 8.5 minutes and prone-to-running 40-yard dash in 8 seconds.
* Candidates selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter, be able to obtain and maintain a Federal commission, DOE Q Level Clearance and continuous certification in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
* Qualify initially and bi-annually with assigned weapons systems and meet other training requirements.

Candidates who meet minimum qualifications and are invited to the Cooper physical assessment will be required to show proof of citizenship and military service (if applicable) and should be prepared to present this documentation at the time of testing.

Desired Qualifications
* Military experience in combat arms, military or security police, nuclear/special weapon security.
* Completion of formal courses in law enforcement, criminal justice, police science, security or related discipline.
* Four or more years' experience in security, law enforcement or related discipline within the last 10 years.
* Prior nuclear security experience at another DOE site as a Security Police Officer II or III, NRC nuclear power plant as an armed protective force member, or military nuclear weapons site as a security force member.
* Peace Officer certificate from a recognized law enforcement academy (local, state, or federal). Examples: Municipal Police, Sheriff, State Trooper, State Police, FBI, Secret Service, Treasury, US Marshals, Drug Enforcement, and Border Patrol, etc.

Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate: $37.181

In accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the pay rate listed represents the starting hourly rate.
