SPECIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE ROOM TEACHER GRADES 9-12
1.00 FTE Beginning the 2021-2022 School Year
DESCRIPTION: Highland School District #203 has an opening for a special education teacher to provide and
coordinate services for eligible students in grades 9-12 in a collaborative team approach including co-planning,
co-teaching and pull-out services for students at the high school.
180-day contract, see salary schedule below.
Development, coordination, and implementation of program(s) to meet goals and objectives in ELA, Math, Behavior and Adaptive skills as outlined in each student's Individualized Education Plan in a
collaborative model with general education.
2. Manage and supervise the activities of paraprofessionals.
3. Manage transition planning and related activities for individual students on caseload.
4. Development and implementation of behavior management plans for specific students.
5. Develop and implement parent support program for identified families.
6. Assess students with appropriate tools to determine eligibility and program planning needs.
7. Write and implement compliant Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and monitor student progress.
8. Collaborate with and support high school counselor, the school building's Multi-Tiered System of
Support (MTSS), Positive Intervention System (PBIS), and the District Special Education Team.
QUALIFICATIONS: (minimum skills required)
Hold a valid Washington State teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement or able to obtain
one. Have teaching experience working with secondary aged students in a variety of settings (preferred)
Collaborative communication skills, which would facilitate working with children, parent and school staff
in the development and maintenance of this program in a multicultural setting.
Demonstrated computer literacy/ability to learn IEP Online program.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.
SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience placement on the District salary
schedule, plus 2 days at per diem, 27.5 additional hours at per diem rate, a signing bonus, and additional pay
available for professional development opportunities.
